Breathworks - Manchester Workshop October 2010 PDF Print

Introduction to Mindfulness as a Health Care Intervention

Two-day Event for Health Professionals: Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 October 2010 in Central Manchester

  • Get a taste of mindfulness that will nourish and replenish you
  • Learn how to bring that experience into your daily life

Prices

  • £250 (if paid for by institution) incl VAT
  • £220 (if paid for by individual) incl VAT

Learning Objectives
Over the two days of the workshop you will be introduced to:

  • The theory of mindfulness: what it is; definitions; historical context; applications in health-care; the Breathworks approach
  • The practice of mindfulness: body scan meditation; mindfulness of breathing; kindly awareness meditation; three minute breathing space; gentle mindful movement
  • Research outcomes of the Breathworks Programme - qualitative and quantitative
  • Ways you can establish a personal mindfulness practice of your own
  • Ways you can begin to introduce mindfulness into your work with patients*

* Please note that mindfulness is less a theory than a practice, and in order to effectively teach it to others you need to have a firm foundation of practice yourself. For this reason we will be specific about which aspects of mindfulness you may start passing onto patients, though be assured that you will learn some techniques that will be immediately applicable in your work.

Materials included
The course fee includes three CD sets of led mindfulness meditations (Body Scan, Mindfulness of Breathing and Kindly Awareness)

“The Breathworks team run a thoughtful and authentic programme for people with persistent pain. They bring long experience of mindfulness and meditation, and experience of living with pain, to a gentle but dynamic reconceptualisation of pain and its implications for daily life.”
