Mindfulness is becoming more widely recommended as a practice in many fields of physical and psychological healthcare. Yet, facing huge work stress and increasing burnout rates, it is often those healthcare professionals with a foundation in these techniques of calm, focus, and resilience who stand to gain the most.

The mindfulness and compassion practices which we teach have been shown in many studies to greatly improve concentration, calm under stress, successful interpersonal communication, and work satisfaction. New research has revealed that compassion is one of the strongest components of resilience.

That's why Breathworks offers two 3-day courses, for mindfulness and compassion, specifically tailored for Healthcare Professionals, run by our most experienced trainers. Our courses also contain guidance on which conditions mindfulness is most effective for, and how you can start to share mindfulness with patients or clients, including a thorough review of the content of our signature eight-week Mindfulness for Health course for people with chronic pain, long-term health conditions and associated stress.

Attending both modules also meets the pre-requisite for training as a Breathworks Mindfulness Teacher if you should ever wish to apply in the future.

Introduction to Mindfulness as a Healthcare Intervention Introduction to Mindful Compassion as a Healthcare Intervention
  • The Theory: what mindfulness is, historical context, applications in health-care, and the Breathworks approach

  • The Psychological Science: primary and secondary suffering, the place of acceptance, doing and being modes, the importance of the body as a foundation for mindfulness, coming to your senses, brain plasticity, blocking, drowning, & accepting.

  • The Practice: mindfulness, the body scan meditation, the breathing anchor meditation, the three-minute breathing space, and gentle mindful movement.

  • What's the best way to establish your own mindfulness practice?

  • How can you begin to introduce mindfulness into your work with patients or clients?*

  •  The Theory: what is mindful compassion? History of compassion, applications in health-care, and the Breathworks approach.

  • The Psychological Science: three major emotion regulation systems, brain plasticity and compassion, neurology & neurotransmitters, the vagal nerve, and the attentional negativity bias and how to overcome it.

  • The Practice: compassionate breath, compassionate acceptance, the treasure of pleasure meditation, the open heart meditation, the connection meditation, activity management and pacing.

  • What's the best way to establish your own compassion practice?

  • How can you can begin to introduce mindful compassion into your work with patients or clients?*

*Please note that these practices are indeed practices, not just theories, and in order to effectively teach them to others you need to have a firm foundation of practice yourself. For this reason we will be specific about which aspects you may start passing onto patients, though be assured that you will learn some techniques that will be immediately applicable in your work.
