Retreat Content

We are delighted to invite you to join us on this meditation retreat aimed at mindfulness teachers and graduates of 8-week mindfulness courses who have meditated for at least one year. With the growing popularity of mindfulness, many of us are getting a taste of meditation and a wish to practise more intensively, but there are limited opportunities to take our mindfulness practice deeper.

This week-long meditation retreat is aimed to fulfil that need whether your basic mindfulness training has been in MBSR,MBCT, Breathworks or any other mindfulness-based approach.

It will be led by the three founders of Breathworks: Vidyamala Burch, Sona Fricker and Gary Hennessey. They have all been meditating for decades and love teaching and practising meditation with others. A team of experienced senior Breathworks trainers will support them

Over the week we will go very deeply into mindfulness and compassion practices to help cultivate a strong and positive sense of wholeness through the doorways of body, mind and heart. All the meditations will be firmly rooted in an experience of whole-body breathing that is emotionally warm and kind. The range of meditation practices taught during the week will include:

• Breath-based Body Scanning

• Breathing meditations

• Compassion meditations

• Mindful movement

If you want to practice the meditations before the retreat we recommend you buy the Breathworks Body Scan, Mindfulness of Breathing and Kindly Awareness CDs available here.<

Most of the retreat will be held in silence to enable your experience of meditation to deepen. There will also be regular opportunities to talk to one of the team about your meditation practice as well as some teaching input.

We are hiring the venue for the week. It is a beautiful Buddhist Centre in an area of outstanding beauty near the Malvern Hills. The retreat will be entirely secular.

A typical day's programme is as follows:

7.00 rise (moving to 6.30 after third day) followed by meditation

9.00 breakfast

10.30 teaching input and meditation

1.00 lunch followed by free time to rest and take walks in the countryside

4.00 body scan and mindful movement

5.00 meditation review groups

6.00 supper

7.45 evening meditation
